Here's the good news in technology -- at least according to Texas Instruments CEO Tom Engibous:
"We now believe the third quarter was the low point for (chip) orders and the fourth quarter will set the floor for sales."
How bad was 2001? Gartner Inc. cut its 2001 PC sales view by 20 million units to 124 million. That's the first drop in PC sales ever.
IDC slashed projections for data storage by a whopping $11 billion. Nokia cut industry cell phone projections by 30%.
But the worst seems over, judging by the stock market and other signs. Techs have led the stock market in recent weeks, climbing to the top quartile of IBD's industry ratings.
On Wednesday, some chipmakers raised some prices by 30% -- the third increase in a month.
