Russians attack Chechens, kill 73

Russian forces also took 20 prisoners in a major operation in the separatist republic. Two Russian servicemen held by Chechen rebels were freed. Both sides tend to exaggerate casualties. Chechnya, mostly Muslim, has sought independence since the Soviet Union disbanded in 1990.
