Big caps edged higher Friday. The Dow Jones industrials rose 0.5% in the morning but couldn't move further. It slid into negative territory in the afternoon before closing up 0.06% on heavier trade. For the week it gained 1%.

Sunrise Assisted Living surged 3.05 to 29 as trade tripled. On Friday, the operator of assisted living facilities signed an agreement to sell 14 properties for $223 million. The firm also reaffirmed fourth-quarter earnings views of 44 to 46 cents a share. Analysts expect 45 cents. Sunrise expects 2002 profit growth in the midteens. The stock popped back above its 50-day moving average, sitting 9% off its high. …
