In June, Idec Pharmaceuticals attempted to clear a 24-week base but failed. Since then it has formed a six-month base, sitting 9% off its high.

In the past nine weeks its Relative Price Strength Rating has ranged from 52 to 89. It's now 79.

The biotech firm develops treatments for cancer and autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. It makes Rituxan, a drug that treats non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Profit growth has hit 43% or higher in the past five quarters. Analysts predict 2001 earnings will rise 64% vs. 24% a year ago, says First Call.
