If you get audited this year, thank Mercury Interactive Inc.
OK, that's going a bit too far. It's closer to the truth to say if your online shopping goes smoothly this year, from a technical standpoint, Mercury Interactive might deserve some credit.
The company tests and monitors Web sites and systems. Last week, an Internal Revenue Service crew was at the company's Sunnyvale, Calif., headquarters for some testing of the IRS site. Mercury found some problems with the agency site, as it usually does with any customer.
But it's not yet tax season. More often at this time of year, Mercury Interactive is busiest with its e-commerce customers. Ken Klein, Mercury's chief operating officer, explained why this is in an interview with Investor's Business Daily.
IBD: Is this the season for e-commerce sites to be jolly?
Klein: It should be. We try to make sure that is the case. We help companies ensure that their strategic Web-based applications work and stay running at peak performance. We're testing and monitoring. We're the leading company, with more than 50% of this market in the latest IDC (International Data Corp.) figures.
