Accredo Health Inc. has made it clear over the years: It's interested only in expensive and injectable or infused drugs for chronic diseases. But now it's looking to expand.
So far, it's stuck to the tried and true.
"We're typically looking for products that are major blockbuster drugs that we think have a potential to dominate market share for seven to 10 years," said David Stevens, Accredo's chief executive.
The specialty pharmacy provider distributes seven products to treat eight diseases. Its primary product is Biogen Inc.'s Avonex treatment for multiple sclerosis.
Accredo's other products treat Gaucher disease, hemophilia, growth hormone disorders, Crohn's disease, respiratory syncytial virus, rheumatoid arthritis and immune deficiencies.
Accredo is not involved in development or manufacturing the drugs. Instead, it receives its products directly from five biotech firms: Biogen Inc., Genentech Inc., Genzyme General, Centocor Inc. and MedImmune Inc.
