The Bush administration announced Wednesday that Saudi Arabia has issued an order to freeze assets of 66 individuals and groups suspected of links to terrorism.
But it's not clear whether the Saudis actually blocked assets. President Bush issued a sweeping order on Sept. 24 to block terrorist assets.
The U.S. government is in a delicate situation in its relationship with Saudi Arabia, a long-standing U.S. ally that is ostensibly a partner in the U.S.-organized anti-terror coalition, but has not cooperated on a number of fronts.
The Saudis won't let their country to be used as a staging ground for attacks into Afghanistan. On more than one occasion they refused to share intelligence on terrorists. Fifteen of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers were traced back to Saudi Arabia. But by all reports, the Saudis haven't shared information about them.
