IBM touts "self-healing' servers
As part of its "Eliza" project, IBM added services to help servers manage themselves. The system is designed to react to failing parts and rising workloads without involving technicians. It'll also help users determine computer performance goals and then install the correct software and hardware. It'll cost $100,000 to $1 mil.
Chip sales seen up a little in '02
The chip industry should rebound from its worst slump ever with global sales growth of 3% to $152 bil in '02, researcher Gartner Dataquest said. Sales will grow 30% in '03. The Sept. 11 attack hurt already weak sales. Gartner now expects '01 global sales to fall 35% to $147 bil.
