Shakeup In Top 10 Chip Ranking
Researcher IC Insights says Samsung Electronics jumped into second place in worldwide chip sales in the first half of 2002. That's three spots up from the No. 5 spot it had in '01's first half. Samsung posted sales of $3.9 billion.
Intel Corp. easily held onto the No. 1 spot with first-half sales of $11.8 billion.
IC Insights President Bill McClean says it's the first time Samsung has held the No. 2 spot. "Their diversification plans are showing results," he said.
