Spiritual Head Needed
Regarding "Just How Tolerant Is Islam?" (National Issue, July 25), the problem with this religion is that there is no central authority, such as the Roman Catholic pope, to control miscreant and myriad interpretations of the Koran.
How many times have we heard a so-called expert say the Koran means this, only to have another expert say the Koran means that? How do you consistently influence more than a billion Muslims when warped mullahs can preach any version they wish? How are they controlled? How are they chastised?
When many readers ask why we don't hear more outrage at Sept. 11 from the Muslim clerics, the reason is that there is no one person who can speak for the majority of the Muslim world.
