Travel sectors hit by terror fears
Airlines, hotels and casinos all lost ground as investors worried about the possible impact of a July 4 holiday weekend attack. The Sept. 11 attack sent those sectors reeling, with several airlines still struggling to survive even with federal aid. Lehman Bros. widened its Q2 loss estimates for United Air and American. IBD's airline group slid 3.4%. IBD's hotel group fell 3.1%, and the gaming group gave up 3.8%.
Continental Airlines posted a small profit in June, but not enough to offset its losses in the rest of Q2, analysts say.
Southwest Airlines' June load factor was 73.5% vs. 74.4% last year.
American Air's June load factor -- at 75.2% -- was unchanged.
