At its flagship store in South Deerfield, Mass., Yankee Candle Co. hawks somewhere near 90,000 square feet of wax and wicks.
But inside the store, the firm is trying out a few new ideas that could hasten its already rapid expansion.
Amid miles of candles, Yankee recently unveiled a "home store" department to showcase new kitchen, garden and bath supplies. It's giving 20,000 square feet to the project in an area that formerly housed a car museum.
"It's kind of a brand extension that takes them beyond candles," said Goldman Sachs analyst Carey Callaghan.
That's not all that's changing. This month, Yankee will launch a line of personal care products such as soaps, lotions and gels.
It's also eyeing complementary products like electric fragrance diffusers.
