EDS falling on WorldCom woes
Electronic Data Systems dived 6.70, or 18%, to 30.45, its lowest close since Oct. '97. It said client WorldCom's woes will hurt profit by 4 cents a share in Q3 and Q4. The Navy won't order more workstations from the tech services firm until those already on order have more tests. And EDS ended talks with Procter & Gamble on managing computers and back-office ops in a $10 bil outsourcing deal. EDS has fallen 35% in four sessions.
Global chip sales up 2.8% in May
They rose to $11.4 bil, due to strong demand for chips in cell phones and consumer electronics, an industry group said. Computer chip sales remain weak. The bulk of May's gain came from Asia.
