Cheney to take reins temporarily
President Bush was to undergo a colon check Saturday that requires his sedation. The powers of the presidency were to be transferred, briefly, to Vice President Dick Cheney. Bush said doctors recommended the colonoscopy because benign polyps were found in a prior check. Bush said there are "no signs, no symptoms" of trouble.
Cheney warned anew that the U.S. could make a pre-emptive strike at some point against a threatening foe. "We must take the battle to the enemy," Cheney said.
