Apple execs sold before warnings

Apple Computer execs sold big chunks of company stock just before two profit warnings in the past two years. Each warning caused the stock to tank. No other big insider sales took place in that time. Apple said the sales weren't based on insider knowledge. Six execs traded.

Ingram sees stable PC demand

The top PC distributor sees no bump or dip in PC demand. Ingram saw demand rise slightly after Sept. 11 as resellers predicted firms would replace lost computers. The firm resells PCs from major PC makers to local firms and retailers. Despite the PC slump, Ingram says its inventories are stable.

Varian Semi raises Q3 guidance

The chip gear maker said customers wanted early delivery of some products. Varian Semiconductor expects to earn 6-9 cents a share on $91 mil-$96 mil in sales. It earned 8 cents a year ago. In April, Varian expected to break even on sales of $75 mil-$90 mil. Varian didn't provide future guidance, saying visibility hasn't improved. Varian rose 7% ...
