Lawyer slept, so execution is off

Texas Death Row inmate Calvin Burdine, whose lawyer slept for long portions of his 1984 murder trial, will win either freedom or a new trial after the Supreme Court rejected an appeal from the state, which argued the sleeping didn't necessarily equal an unfair trial.

Secret FBI wiretap rules altered

Responding to criticism, FBI Director Robert Mueller will personally review any requests by agents for secret terrorism wiretaps denied by FBI lawyers. The change gives field agents a final direct appeal to Mueller if they believe FBI headquarters is hampering terror probes.
