Xilinx slides on updated forecast
The communications chip maker says Q1 sales will rise 8% from Q4's $273 mil. Xilinx had seen 6%-8%. But analysts expected better news. Wall St. down on Oracle outlook
Faced with stiff competition and a Calif. contract controversy, Oracle resorted to big discounts in the final weeks of Q4, which ended in May. Analysts are cutting sales estimates. Wachovia Securities said Oracle's Q4 ended "extremely sluggish." Lehman Bros. expects "significant" layoffs at Oracle as well as rival SAP. Oracle fell 8%.
Microsoft settles SEC probe
It'll stop using an accounting practice that allegedly understated revenue to smooth earnings, the SEC confirmed. The No. 1 software maker won't have to restate results or pay a fine. Microsoft neither admitted nor denied charges.
