Wireless lifts world chip sales 3%
Chip sales rose for a second month in April, thanks to growth in wireless chips. Sales jumped to $11.1 bil, an industry group said. The sales bump shows the industry is mounting a slow recovery from the doldrums of '01. But many analysts and tech surveys suggest chips and tech overall may stall in the 2nd half.
Microsoft judge shuns memo
The federal judge hearing the antitrust case won't consider an internal Microsoft e-mail that advocated retaliation against "unfriendly" computer makers. This is the second time nine states suing Microsoft have tried to use the memo. The judge had refused to let the states use the memo in questioning Chairman Bill Gates.
Microsoft and SEC settle probe
The SEC settled charges that the software giant misled investors by understating revenue from '95 to '98. Without admitting any wrongdoing or facing any fine, Microsoft will stop using the accounting practice to smooth out earnings. Microsoft-SEC talks had been widely reported.
