Scientists at biotech start-up Nucleotech have transformed human skin cells into immune cells. That might bypass the need for stem cells or cloning technology for many medical therapies.

A sharp rise in diabetes and other diseases linked to childhood obesity has added millions of dollars to U.S. health care costs, the journal Pediatrics said.

Diabetes is spreading faster in Asia than anywhere else in the world, affecting kids as young as 9 years old, medical experts said.

Obese adults are more likely to become disabled later in life even if they lose the weight, the American Journal of Public Health reported.
