Baby Bell broadband bill is back
Sens. John Breaux, D-La., and Don Nickles, R-Okla., introduced a bill to ease restrictions on local Bells to try to speed up the rollout of high-speed Internet services. It's an attempt to revive the Tauzin-Dingell bill, which passed the House but stalled in the Senate. Baby Bells currently must open up their networks to rivals if they want to offer long-distance voice or data services.
The FCC, which has eased cable modem broadband regulations, may ease the Bells' DSL rules without congressional action.
