The States Of California
In "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, But L.A. Might Do It Anyway" (National Issue, Friday), Los Angeles-based IBD laments the possible secession of the San Fernando Valley from the city of Los Angeles.
Breaking up wouldn't be hard at all, if done right. Northern Californians would gladly see the whole Los Angeles area secede from the state. Make up your own state, No. 51. Or your own nation ("Lalaland" comes to mind). Or merge with Mexico.
Either way, Los Angeles would have to stop draining water from the north, which it not only uses to fill swimming pools and create golf clubs in the desert. At the height of last year's energy crisis, Los Angeles turned the water energy into electricity, which it then sold back to Northern California.
Go your own way, Los Angeles, with or without the San Fernando Valley. Good riddance.
