Walter Hewlett won't rejoin board
Hewlett-Packard will not renominate the dissident board member based on his adversarial relationship and the suit he filed against the computer and printer maker regarding the HP-Compaq merger vote. HP cited "concerns about his lack of candor and issues of trust." Hewlett led the fight against the HP-Compaq deal. He regrets he hasn't been renominated after 15 years on the board. More on A5
Worldwide chip sales flat in Feb.
Month-over-month figures stayed at $10 bil. But DRAM memory chip sales surged 24% due to higher prices, the Semiconductor Industry Association said. Feb. sales slid 35% from Jan. '01. Sales in the Americas and Asia-Pacific rose 2% and 0.3%. SIA sees a slightly stronger Q2, with accelerating growth in the 2nd half.
Nvidia clipped by Barron's article
The graphics chip maker slid 2% to 43.63 after Barron's warned Nvidia might be on the wrong side of a shift in the graphics-chip sector. The article noted top rivals Intel and ATI Technologies took steps to regain market share, while Nvidia hasn't been able to gain a key Intel license.
