High-speed Web users rise 27%
The 1st-half '02 rise cooled from the 33% rise in 2nd-half '01, the FCC said. Cable and phone companies served 14.3 mil of the 16.2 mil U.S. high-speed users in '02. Satellite and fixed-wireless firms served the rest. Cable operators' market share rose to 57% from 55%, with cable high-speed lines jumping 30% to 9.2 mil. Phone firms' share climbed to 31.4% from 30.4%, with customer count up 29% to 5.1 mil lines.
