Safeway falls 11% on lower view
The No. 3 U.S. grocer hit a six-year low after saying it expects to earn 78-80 cents a share in Q4 vs. analysts' views for 82 cents. Safeway sees '03 profit of $2.50-$2.65, below forecasts for $2.92. Customers are buying groceries at Wal-Mart due to the soft economy, it said. Last week, rival Albertsons warned.
