Small Caps Led Performance In Week; Value Lapped Growth; Battered tech portfolios rose 3.07%, while utility funds rebounded 2.67%.(MUTUAL FUNDS)

A modest rally in the market during the week of Oct. 24-31 gave most funds a shot in the arm.

Small-cap value funds led stock fund performance in the week, gaining 1.28%, according to Lipper Inc. data.

Small-cap core funds also cleared 1%, while small-cap growth funds climbed 0.86%.

S&P 500 index funds rose 0.4%, while large-cap growth funds were flat and large-cap core funds moved up 0.22%.

The only diversified stock fund group that fell was the specialty group, which returned -0.32%.

Mid-cap value funds also made a decent showing, with their value contingent up 0.86%. Science and tech funds led sector performance, rising 3.07%. Utility funds were up 2.67% for the week. Telecom funds were up 1.69% in the week. Specialty/Miscellaneous, natural resources and real estate funds lagged.
