Half of plant species endangered

The estimate, published in this month's Nature, is much higher than those of earlier studies that don't include plants in tropical areas such as Ecuador and Colombia. The study blamed global warming and human encroachment for wiping out 310,000-422,000 plants worldwide, up to 47% of all species.
