Lancaster Q1 profit missed views

The maker of food, glassware, candles and auto gear earned 56 cents, up a penny from last year but 8 cents below views. Lancaster Colony blamed weak demand. Sales rose 4% to $275.8 mil on gains in its auto and foods units. The firm will shift glass manufacturing from Indiana to Oklahoma, displacing about 240 employees. Lancaster tumbled 9, or 20%, to 36.45.

ABB in asbestos settlement talks

The reeling Swiss industrial firm expects to pay the sum of its Combustion Engineering unit's assets, $812 mil as of Sept., plus $300 mil more over time. That's far less than many feared. The deal needs an OK from 75% of plaintiffs. It's already paid claimants $865 mil. Also, Moody's downgraded ABB's debt to junk.
