Byline: NICK TURNER
Lisa Brummel keeps watch over a large territory.
As head of Microsoft Corp.'s home products division, she's responsible for everything from the Natural Keyboard to the Encarta encyclopedia.
The unit's products lie in the shadow of Microsoft's operating systems and Office software. But the unit is no small potatoes. It contributes $1 billion in annual revenue. If it were its own company, it would be bigger than Revlon, Brummel notes.
It's had plenty of successes -- its mice, for instance, are big sellers. And it's had its share of failures, such as an animatronic Barney doll.
"We definitely had some ups and downs," Brummel said.
But after 20 years, Brummel's division is not slowing down. It's pushing new products that help consumers tap into high-speed networks.
