Dividends continue rise in Sept.
Standard & Poor's reports that 78 firms raised their dividends. That's up 28% from the same month last year and the third straight month of year-to-year gains. Payouts for firms on the S&P 500 will rise 2% this year, after two years of declines.
Older immigrants from Europe
Some 39% of foreign-born U.S. residents age 65 years or older come from Europe, the single largest source, says the Census Bureau. Another 31% come from Latin America and 22% come from Asia. The numbers reflect historical patterns; counting all age groups, most come from Latin America and Asia.
