Nintendo cuts April-Sept. outlook
The Japanese videogame maker cut its GameCube game console shipment target for the March-ending fiscal year by 2 mil units to 10 mil. Nintendo also slashed its profit view for April-Sept. to $58 mil from about $240 mil. U.S. videogame firms that fell included Activision, and THQ, down 8%. Retailers Electronics Boutique lost 14% and Ultimate Electronics lost 12%.
** Take-Two Interactive Software launched a new subsidiary, Gotham Games, with debut title "Conflict: Desert Storm," a game that simulates a war with Iraq.
IT outlays falling, storage better
That's the outlook of Network Appliance CEO Dan Warmenhoven, just before the launch of the firm's new storage devices. Spending on storage gear has fallen with overall tech spending, but the exec says storage is growing as a percentage of those sales. He expects the storage gear segment to be flat overall. Network Appliance rose 10%.
