Out of loop, telecom chair claims

Global Crossing Chairman Gary Winnick testified he wasn't informed of the fiber optic firm's desperate finances before he sold $123 mil in stock. All told, stock sales brought him $734 mil. Winnick said he took no part in high-level meetings last year at which executives warned of lagging sales. He pledged to donate $25 mil to retirement plans of workers.

Siemens confirms Motorola talks

The two electronics makers may strike a deal to work together to save money or even swap parts of their mobile telecom businesses. But Motorola is just one firm weighing a deal with Siemens, which makes handsets and wireless network gear. Observers expect a wave of consolidation under a capacity glut and stagnating sales.

Williams gets reorganization OK

Under the plan approved by the bankruptcy court, the telecom services firm's unsecured creditors will get about a 54% stake in the reorganized company. Leucadia National, which will invest $150 mil in Williams Communications, will own 44%. Current Williams holders will get nothing. ...
