Sometimes business can be too good.
Trex Co. found that out last year with its wood-substitute decking lumber.
The problem started a couple of years before, when Trex got hit by an avalanche of orders.
It had to put customers on strict allocations, then scramble to add more factory capacity.
With more factory lines humming by the third quarter of 2000, Trex lifted the restrictions. Customers, used to rationing, bought supplies like there was no tomorrow.
"They wanted to make sure they had a secure source of supply," said Andrew Ferrari, Trex's executive vice president of marketing and business development.
