HP Is Bringing Computers Home
By Taking Its Show On The Road
When Hewlett-Packard Co. wanted to show consumers how to use its personal computers and imaging products in their homes, they decided to take the home to consumers.
Since May, HP has had three tractor-trailers traveling across the U.S. demonstrating its products using mobile mock-ups of a kid's room, kitchen, home office and living room. The 18-wheel trucks have been stopping at state fairs, festivals, college football games and computer store parking lots.
HP's "Bringing It Home" tour has proved to be a good way to demonstrate products in a controlled setting. "There's no better way to market products than grass roots, hands-on demonstrations," said Stephen Walsh, HP tour manager, on a recent stop at an Office Depot in Chicago.
