Homes seen as safer than stocks

A Fannie Mae poll found 70% of Americans agreed homes are a "safe and smart" investment vs. 38% who said the same of 401(k)s and IRAs. Just 10% felt that way about stocks. While stocks have been weak, home sales and prices have been strong.

EPA: Diesel a likely cancer cause

Fumes from the fuel also contribute to asthma and other respiratory problems, the agency says. Environmentalists hope to use the report to pressure President Bush to clamp down on emissions. The report studied the effects of diesel engines built before the mid-'90s.
