Q2 home prices up 6.5% in year
Average U.S. home prices rose 1.9% from Q1 and 6.5% from Q2 '01, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight said. After peaking at 9.2% in Q1 '01, yearly home price gains have slowed for five straight quarters. Washington, D.C., prices rose 15.2% vs. a year ago.
Number of U.S. millionaires falls
Millionaire households, with more than $1 mil in investable assets, fell 11% to 3.3 mil in June from 3.7 mil a year ago, says a new study by NFO WorldGroup. But households with at least $5 mil grew by 3,000 to 483,000. Two-thirds of those surveyed say they've become "much more conservative" in their approach. NFO's Affluent Confidence Index fell to 15.5 from 16.2.
Survey: Workers log longer days
More than one-third of 1,400 workers surveyed by CareerBuilder.com say personal workloads have increased in the past six months as firms try to get by with smaller payrolls. Most workers said they work more than 40 hours a week.
