Ramming planes mulled on 9-11
In the moments after the Sept. 11 attack, a U.S. commander considered sending unarmed Air Force fighter jets on suicide missions to stop any more hijacked airliners. Air Force Col. Robert Marr said that as commander of the air defense sector he'd have needed authority from superiors to make such orders. He said he never actually decided to follow that plan.
