Mortgage rates hit fresh lows
The benchmark 30-year fell another 8 basis points to 5.85% this week, breaking the prior week's record, Freddie Mac said. The 15-year also fell 8 points to a new low of 5.24%. The 1-year adjustable rose 5 points from last week's low to 4.06%.
** It's already too late to get those rates. Bond yields, which mortgage rates key off, jumped Thursday as stocks rallied.
** Refis rose 10.9% in the Dec. 27 week on low rates, the Mortgage Bankers Association said. But loan requests to buy homes fell 7.5%.
** M2 money rose $11.4 bil to $5.8227 tril in the Dec. 23 week, the Fed said. M3 fell $6.4 bil to $8.5428 tril. M1 rose $17 bil to $1.2271 tril.
