U.S.: Hynix got South Korean aid
Acting on a complaint by rival memory chip firm Micron, the Commerce Dept. found the South Korean government subsidized 57.37% of Hynix's cost in making chips shipped in '01 and the 1st half of '02. The ruling was expected. Hynix called it unjustified. If Commerce upholds the preliminary ruling, it could slap big import duties. The EU has launched a similar probe.
** Cree jumped 17% to 21.59 after the chipmaker said Japan's Sumitomo signed a $100 mil purchase order. It's Cree's biggest order ever.
** Gateway asked for a 15-day delay to file its annual report to restate past results about deals with AOL in '00 and '01. This year's results won't be affected.
