Mercury Interactive Corp., maker of quality management software, fell 5% Monday as the software industry entered "confession week."
Traditionally, the first week of April is when firms announce that quarterly earnings will fall short of previous views. Investors are especially nervous this time after poor results from Oracle Corp., whose consulting branch has an important alliance with Mercury, dragged down the whole sector. Several analysts trimmed estimates for Mercury in the last week on fears that it will be among those announcing a shortfall.
