Hackers May Share Break-In Methods, Say Some Analysts.(A)

Batten down the patches.

Online attacks could follow a recent computer break-in, security researchers warn. Hackers, they say, breached military Web servers last week via a flaw that affects Windows 2000 when used with IIS server software from Microsoft Corp.

The worry is that the attackers may have shared their methods with others. That could result in assaults on Web servers, specialists say, perhaps even an Internet worm like 2001's Code Red, which spread via a server software flaw.

"We'll likely see an en masse attack in the form of a worm in the next seven to 10 days," warned Russ Cooper of managed services …
