Sure, you can make money beaming TV to homes via satellite. EchoStar Corp. and DirecTV proved that.
But other satellite services haven't fared so well. Iridium failed in trying to whisk phone calls globally by satellite. Other companies have tried to deliver Internet service via satellite to homes and businesses -- with limited success.
But that's not holding back Denver-based WildBlue Communications Inc. It's making a go at selling high-speed Net access to consumers via satellite. In December, the company raised $156 million from new investors to keep its project alive.
By leasing capacity on a Telesat Canada satellite, WildBlue plans to offer two-way Net services to rural America starting in 2004.
Thomas Moore, WildBlue's chief executive, spoke with Investor's Business Daily about the satellite business.
