Dow's Gains Can't Erase Week's Loss.(B)

A strong earnings report from Walt Disney Co. buoyed the Dow Friday, but the rest of the market, especially techs, posted another so-so day. The Dow industrials rose 1.4%, the S&P 500 1.3%, as NYSE volume closed about even with Thursday's level. The small-cap S&P 600 added 1.4%.

ITT Educational Services continued its run-up from its Jan. 23 breakout, rising 0.88 to 27.98 on nearly four times its normal trade. The provider of postsecondary technical education notched its second straight closing high.

Harman International Industries vaulted 2.63 to 61.50 on nearly three times its usual turnover. The maker of high-end stereo and audio equipment posted a 131% increase in year-over-year earnings on Thursday, to 81 cents a share. Harman was featured in Friday's NYSE Stocks In The News.

UGI Corp. surged 2.06 to 41.83 as volume swelled to more than twice its 50-day average. The Pennsylvania-based natural gas and electricity provider surged to an all-time high. The firm plans to split its stock 3-for-2 on April 1. No foolin'.

FTI Consulting retraced some recently lost ground, gaining 2.28 to 41.15 on brisk trade. The provider of forensic analysis, jury consulting and other litigation support services ...
