Byline: PETER BENESH
A 1980 Hollywood film made a star of the USS Nimitz, the first in a class of nuclear aircraft carriers that will project American power for decades to come.
The film, "The Final Countdown," flung the Nimitz and her aircraft back to Dec. 6, 1941.
Could a modern warship and her planes change the course of history by destroying the Japanese fleet about to attack Pearl Harbor?
The producers chickened out before they had to figure out that wrinkle. They reopened the time warp and hurled the Nimitz back to the present just before the sneak attack.
Fast forward to today's reality.
America has been hit by an unseen, Islamist, terrorist foe. A U.S.-led war against Saddam Hussein's regime looms. North Korea plans nuclear warheads and has the missiles to carry them.
