IBM Corp. and America Online are making it easier for their business-based instant messaging systems to mesh. The two companies are conducting a test that will make it easier for the users of their two systems to communicate.
The test involves a small number of users from IBM's Lotus Sametime and AOL's enterprise AIM Services systems. It will begin in the next few weeks. The firms will know the results in 30 days after the tests.
IBM's Sametime system runs on Lotus software. AOL's works on the software that runs its global AIM instant messaging service.
