Just how much trouble are we and our erstwhile British allies in now that the aftermath of the Iraq war has taken on such a dour coloration? The answer rather depends on what one means by "trouble," and on what one means by "we."

As to the latter, "we" can be taken narrowly to mean certain political principals. Prime Minister Blair and President Bush have been harmed by how things are going, the former pretty obviously so, but the latter more than American political handicappers are wont thus far to admit.
