Texas lawmakers weren't satisfied that their state already recognized only opposite-sex marriages. Concerned that same-sex civil unions from other states might pose a dire threat to heterosexual marriage, they enacted a law on May 27 outlawing recognition of such unions as well as reinforcing Texas's nonrecognition of same-sex marriages.
