Musical F1 chairs?
Renault F1 technical director Mike Gascoyne has told the team he wants to leave. Gascoyne has been rumored for a while to be on his way to Toyota Motorsport, but he told a German newspaper he simply wants to spend more time with his wife, who is pregnant. Also, Ferrari F1 aerodynamics team leader Nick Tombazis has left Maranello. Rumor is there's a bidding war for his services between Toyota and Renault. Tombazis worked for Renault before moving to Italy.
Shane Hmiel will drive for Petty
Twenty-three-year-old NASCAR driver Shane Hmiel is scheduled to drive for Petty Enterprises at Daytona on July 5. Hmiel is 11th in Busch points, with two top-five finishes and five top-10s in his 16 starts this season.
Davidson opts out of Ferrari
Anthony Davidson stepped down from the Prodrive Ferrari squad's assault on the American Le Mans Series. He will concentrate on his BAR Formula One test duties.
Davidson raced for Prodrive at Sebring and Le Mans. "It's a shame that I will not be able to do it, but I've got some more testing with BAR,'' he said. "I'm also having to go to some grands prix, which clash with ALMS races.''
