In a push to highlight its hottest programming in prime viewing slots, the Speed Channel moves AutoWeek TV to the front lines. The network will create an hour-long auto enthusiast program block between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Thursday. AutoWeek tentatively moves to 8 p.m. Tuesday starting Aug. 4. To make room for its enthusiast block, Speed reassigns some racing replays and news shows.

Add Saab to the ever-widening circle of marques to re-skin GM's midsize sport/utility plat- form. The General's Swedish affiliate will introduce a 9-7 for the 2005 model year based on the same underpinnings as the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, as well as the Chevrolet SSR roadster. Unlike much of the premium segment competition-like Volvo, Acura and Lexus, which build their midsize sport/utes on cars-Saab's 9-7 will be body- on-frame. Though Saab officials wanted to use Cadillac's CTS/SRX unibody platform, they expect the 9-7 to be appropriately different from its U.S.-branded counterparts, although it could get a GM V6 and/or V8. Initial volume estimates call for a maximum 15,000 units per year.
