Scam Victim: |IRS Is Just About In Cahoots With Crooks'

Michael Greenberg, the Pinellas auto parts dealer facing a $36-million bankruptcy and fraud investigation by federal, state and local authorities, wasn't first with the car-selling scam that is alleged by his creditors.

Before Greenberg there was Edward Eugene Powe, owner of Bartow Motor Parts and Heinz's Automotive & Equipment Warehouse, also in Bartow. Powe, 44, filed a $4.5-million bankruptcy in March 1982. Four months later, he was convicted of grand theft of about $1 million, sentenced to eight years in state prison and 15 years probation, according to Polk County records.
