CP Rail, Soo and D&H Systems Integrated
With purchase of the bankrupt Delaware & Hudson Railway Co. January 18 for $25,000,000, Canadian Pacific Ltd. will increase its presence in the North Atlantic ports of New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
The Delaware and Hudson will enable CP Rail System to "step up our efforts to provide better, cost efficient and reliable distributions services on a continental basis," Harry M. Biden told the Pacific Northwest Association of Rail Shippers in Portland, Ore.
Biden, CP's general manager, marketing and sales, forest products, Intermodal Freight Systems, said, "If free trade lives up to expectations it will increase traffic flow between our two countries. We have already seen signs of such increases."
CP is already active in cross-border trade through its 100% ownership of Soo Line, which extends southward from border crossings in Saskatchewan and Manitoba to railheads in Chicago, Kansas City and Louisville. CP plans a rebuilding project to make …
